Senior Manager of Engineering at Fandom

The main mission for the position is to make everyone in the engineering organisation successful by leading and mentoring people on the team that drives business performance and participates in meeting business goals. 

Senior  Engineering Manager is ideally an inspiring leader and a great team builder. He or she will be an excellent recruiter, a great communicator, and a great issue resolver.

This person is expected to lead  2 - 3 engineering teams.

Main responsibilities:

  • Be an inspirational leader to provide the team with a company vision, strategy and project objectives, delegate tasks and set deadlines to meet them
  • Manage all engineering activities including design, development, production and testing
  • Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed
  • Be responsible for the team estimates and deliverables
  • Oversee a robust project management process and delivery timelines to keep projects on schedule and on budget
  • Provide input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility
  • Confront and solve performance and operational issues to improve development efficiency
  • Manage growth and development of direct reports: coaching, suggesting appropriate training and reading, counselling on next steps in career development, including potential career track changes, supporting creation of personal development plan
  • Represent the engineering team in communication with customers and partners
  • Create healthy and motivating work environment
  • Work closely with product stakeholders to help address business needs and build strong partnerships with other teams
  • Handling day-to-day management tasks such as performance reviews, time off, vacation requests, annual reviews, any HR-based intervention, career management/mentoring activities
  • Experiment with new approaches and practices to stay current in software engineering and management knowledge
  • Monitor and determine staffing and training needs
  • Communicate and collaborate with other managers

You are…

  • Requires an Engineering or IT bachelor degree
  • 8+ years of experience in software, at least 5 of which must be in management
  • Proven track record of high quality product delivery
  • High emotional intelligence
  • Proven experience in building high-performance teams and scalable best engineering practices
  • Able to think critically and solve complex problems
  • Able to challenge status quo in a tempered way
  • Able to seek to understand and then act
  • Effective time management skills, both personally and on a team basis
